Smartphone

If one human life is needed to produce say 1000 smartphones, is it worth the price?

The scandal behind the mass production of our everyday smartphones has been there for a long time. Some might put the blame on the tech giants but it seems like most of the peoples out there does not even bat an eye, as it does not have direct effect on them.

This is a very sad reality, and we as a community must try to stand up if the government in any countries can’t made their stand into a clear action. The fact that thousands of workers, working in a very dire condition is the true face of the modern capitalism.

When we buy a smartphones or tablet, we must always bear in mind that it’s not only come with the price displayed at the retail shop, it’s also have a human cost. The one that often you didn’t see, they will never show a chinese worker dying from cancer as a result of producing those smartphones. This are the human cost that actually we also pay.

Recent investigation made by BBC shows the overly exhausted worker working long hours in Apple factory in China. They also exposed how children were exploited to extract tin in the extremely dangerous mines in Bangka, Indonesia.

While accusation on how workers been exposed to a hazardous chemicals also have been there for a long time. Often, workers in this factory ended up in cancer related disease such as leukaemia.

It is not that we are anti technology, or resist the advancement in the modern telecommunication. But we must always remember that we human being have a responsibility to uphold the dignity of our fellow human being. It is not fair that one people lives prosperously at a cost of somebody else.

We as consumer have the power to push this factories by stating our concern on their product to ensures that the worker is treated fairly. The time has come for us to sit, talk, and find the solution to continue the advancement of technology in a sustainable way and does not compromising the human health and wellbeing.

Saving one human is equal to saving the entire human race.

We all can make a change.
