Personal Website for Staff and Students

UTM Office of Corporate Affairs collaborates with faculties and CICT to provides central space for the creation of personal websites for UTM staff and students.

Who can create personal web pages?
All staff and students can create a web page under their faculty domain on the university’s web server. The faculty will decide either it is compulsory for every staff to have personal website. All facility managers of every faculty have the authority to create website for staff and students under the faculty’s domain.

What is the URL of my personal website?
The standard URL of staff and students personal website is facultyname.utm.my/staffname
*facultyname depends on your faculty’s website domain name
*staffname is as the name registered for utm official email for each staff

Space Quota of Web Folder
The is the disk quota for personal websites for each staff and students is 1GB. Website owner can check the total percentage of space used at the Dashboard of their personal site. Additional quota can be added for Web-related files by contacting the faculty’s facility manager.

Can staff or student have a personal URL like staffname.utm.my?
Using subdomain as URL address is only allowed for faculties and offices. Staff and students are not allowed to have such URL.

Can staff or student set up own server for club/project/own learning purposes?
For security reasons, staff and students cannot setup own server and plug it anywhere into the UTM web network.

Is there a FTP service?
FTP service is NOT provided to protect the security of the server.

Website Layout

 

Website title must contain the Full Name and Title of the website owner
The web description (the second line of the website title) can be either the faculty name, office name, expertise or your tagline or motto.

What should I put in my personal website?
The owner is fully responsible for his/her own personal website. Owner may put any details, articles, postings, and images of her choice but kindly mind the copyright law and not to upload any materials that is copyrighted or owned by others.

Can I change my website layout?
Yes you may choose from the build-in templates in the system but we would like advice to use the standard template as per image above to maintain consistencies between personal website.

Can I request to install other layout?
No, we would like to minimize technical issues arise from less known template developer.
